Family

Mr. Gao stands as Patriarch in a feudal family living in the modern day, suppressing every young person's desire for a better life, depriving them of the choice to walk their own path in life. Mr. Gao forces his son, Gao Juexing, to break up with his cousin Qian Meifen, his childhood sweetheart. He married a woman named Rui Jue at his father's demand, causing great pain for the three of them.

The household maid Ning Feng falls in love with a man named Hui Jue. Wholly unwilling to marry a man named Feng Leshan as his concubine, she drowns herself in a lake. Another maid, Wan Er, is sent to Feng’s family to replace Ning Feng, and is abused in the process. At this point in the family history, Qian Meifang dies from depression. Mistress Chen forces Rui Jue to fall pregnant, to which she flees the household as Mr. Gao's spirits slowly die.

Rui Jue died from childbirth alone in a rural house on a snowy and windy day. Under the encouragement of Hui Jue, Jue Ming and his cousin left the family to pursue his dreams of freedom and love. Eventually, Jue Hui also leaves the feudal family in pursuit of a new life.
